Domain Registration
What is it?
Ireland's official domain is the .ie
A domain name is the Internet equivalent of a postal address.
The same way in which "Ireland" as a postal address
shows where you're physically located, the Internet "suffix"
of .ie shows people that your business is located in, or does
business from, Ireland.
Why should I register one?
There are a number of reasons why registering a .ie can make
sense for your business:
- It identifies you as being Irish, or having a presence
in Ireland. This can help you maximise your market presence
in Ireland.
- Unlike other international domains there are a number
of strict rules which apply to the naming process. This
means that you may have a greater choice of available domain
names, as long as you can prove your eligibility.
- The need for a web presence is becoming increasingly important
and the sooner one is obtained, the better. The internet
is becoming an extremely efffective medium of communication
and chances are your competition already has one!
- Domain names are used to form email and also website addresses
so once again, during communication over the internet and
email, your identity will be clearly Irish.
How much does it cost?
We offer .ie domain registration for €100 per annum.
Who can apply?
If you operate a business or service in Ireland you should
be able to apply for your own .ie domain name.
The IE registry's rules are somewhat stricter than those for
.com's etc., but normally proof of entitlement will suffice.
For each request for registration of a domain name under IE,
the applicant must be shown to be one of the following:
(a) a natural person;
(b) a body corporate;
(c) a sole trader;
(d) an unincorporated association;
(e) a statutory body;
(f) a primary or secondary school; registered educational
institution
(g) a body, entity, person or office established by or pursuant
to Bunreacht na h-?reann (Constitution of ROI), or Acts of
the Oireachtas, or an Act of Parliament, Secondary Legislation
or established by the Northern Ireland Assembly, any other
state body, agency or department, including state hospitals,
semi-state bodies, VEC's and local authorities;
(h) a discretionary applicant: any person, body or entity
which the Registry may in its sole discretion consider eligible
to apply for a domain name registration in the IE Domain.
eg: religious sects, or parent/teacher associations.
The domain name must fall into one of the following categories:
Categories and Requirements for Acceptable Domain Names
